Cinematography

 1) Write an analysis of the cinematography in the opening sequence. Highlight your use of media language and try to cover camera shots, angles and movement using the terminology we have learned in lessons. 2) How does the camerawork give the audience clues about the setting, narrative and character?

We are introduced by a close up zooming in on the presented anti hero 'batman' who has effectively been presented as such through his dark colour scheme which usually is made to connote evil or negativity. This is also used on his atmosphere which is furthermore reinforced by the dark setting he is located in.This closeup is also positioned at a birds eye angle which is purposely placed in order to represent the inferiority he has compared to 'superman' which is introduced within the next shot which is a long shot showing the what seems to be villain 'batman' placed at the bottom covered within shadows where we as the audience can barely see him. This shot also contains the what seems to be protagonist as he is placed above batman with a reflective and colourful costume which further reinforces his role as a hero. he has also been placed with back lighting of thunder which helps bring suspense. This is also known as an action code as it connotes to the audience that there will be a fight that will soon break out.

Find and analyse one film or TV still image. Add the image to your blogpost.

3) Analyse the camera shot/angle in the image and what it communicates to the audience. Remember to highlight the media terminology you use.

Here, a long shot has been used. This means the background as well as characters are showing. on the left we can see the character 'Buu' which has been placed in front of 'Gohan'. They are on equal footing whereas Buu has a significant height increase. This helps reinforce the factor of power as well as the genre of action where this scene come from is part of. They are both staring into each others faces and despite the height difference Gohan is standing his ground without a hint of fear but giving off a more heroic sense which can relate to Propps theory of character types. This helps the audience see the difference of roles as this heroic symbolism is also followed by his outfits colour scheme which show no hints of negativity. In the fictional industry, the hero is always presented as muscular and normal whereas the villain is made to be outcasted which we can see this clear difference between the two.
